#SocialDistancing: Holding an IIP Workshop During COVID-19
The team came together for a 4-day online workshop to present the works in progress for the pending exhibition, and discuss the movement of objects and exhibits between the Weltkulturen Museum (WKM) in Frankfurt, the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum (RJM) in Cologne and the National Museums of Kenya for the three exhibitions. With everything that is going on in Kenya and the world with the coronavirus, we regret to announce that we have decided to postpone the Object Movement Dialogue #5 that was to be hosted this April until further notice, and also to move our first exhibition, which was to be held this September at the National Museums of Kenya, to February 2021.
That being said, our online workshop was still vibrant and dynamic, and we got a lot done:
We spoke to a data scientist from Interlipro about the process of visualizing data to meet the different needs of the different groups who would need info from the IIP database.
We touched on the publication of a magazine to capture the OMD presentations.
We also went in-depth re. progress of the Nairobi exhibition, and the prep that were going on before the Coronavirus lockdown.
We consulted exhibition designers from Studio Propolis about overall layout and construction sketches for the exhibitions to be held in Nairobi, Frankfurt, and Cologne.
During this time, we're posting on our socials about the digital pivots museums and galleries all over the world are making to keep welcoming communities in to see their collections: have a look at the links we've shared so far on our Facebook or Twitter pages. We've also been editing and sharing some short video clips about the IIP project progress and process, which you can view on our Youtube channel.
We hope you and your loved ones are safe, are looking forward to seeing all of you once everything settles down, and continue to wish you well.
